As much as we CAN type on our iPad (or even iPad mini), I always find myself wanting a keyboard with tactile feedback whenever I need to type a lot using my iPad. And so I considered to get one of those iPad covers with keyboard.

From a little bit of study, I discovered three main weaknesses of iPad keyboards that are attached to the iPad case:
1. It adds unnecessary weight to the iPad because the need to have keyboard with tactile feedback is not for everyday, at least for me.
2. I don’t put screen protector on my iPad and I always choose a case with a front cover to compensate it. So I don’t particularly like the idea of a physical keyboard directly in contact with my protection-less iPad screen everyday.
3. iPad case usually has form-fit factor to the iPad’s exact dimension. It means, if I decide to change my iPad (from full-sized iPad to iPad mini, or to iPad Air) then I will have to buy a new case with a new keyboard, again. Doesn’t sound smart for me.

After a lot of searching, I decided to get Logitech Tablet Keyboard For iPad. It’s a Bluetooth keyboard with some keys dedicated for iPad. It comes with a cover to protect the keyboard while we pack it in our bags, and that cover can be used as iPad stand. Very practical.

I have used this keyboard for few weeks now, and think it’s probably the time I write a review on it.

Things that I like:
1. It’s a full-sized keyboard. And believe me, people type faster using a full-sized keyboard. While some smaller keyboard are indeed usable, but it will always slow down the typing speed, at least for most people.
2. Bluetooth pairing is relatively easy.
3. Bluetooth connection after the initial pair is really fast and simple (by using a switch).
4. This keyboard is very responsive, well built and feel solid.
5. The cover is really well made, and it fits the keyboard perfectly.
6. When used as iPad stand, it allow us to change the angle of the iPad according to our taste. This is very crucial for me.

Things that I don’t like:
1. While the cover is supposed to protect the keyboard when not used, the keyboard can get separated from its cover because there is no lock between the cover and the keyboard.
2. The keyboard (plus the cover) is relatively heavier than most iPad cases with keyboards. For me, this is still tolerable because I only need to use it occasionally.
3. When building the cover into an iPad stand, the plastic slot is rather tough to “click”. But I guess it should be more durable this way.

It’s worth mentioning that Logitech has made two variants of this keyboard. The first variant has keys dedicated for iPad (iOS) and Mac (OSX). The second variant has keys dedicated for Windows and Android. If you plan to buy one, just make sure to buy the right variant.
